Makes: 10
Difficulty: easy
Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
275ml milk (warm)
55ml water (warm)
225g plain flour
7g dried yeast (1 sachet)
1 tsp fine sea salt
½ tsp caster sugar
You will also need
Melted butter for greasing
Large frying pan
9cm metal crumpet rings
Method
Preheat the oven to 150°C/130°C fan-forced
Combine your milk and water – both should be warm but not hot.
Mix the flour, salt, yeast and sugar together in a bowl. Form a well in the centre, add the liquid and stir to make a nice, smooth batter. Once smooth, rest for 45 minutes covered with a plate or tea towel.
Melt your butter and use to grease the inside of the crumpet rings. Place a frying pan over a low heat; arrange the rings inside the pan and carefully drop 3 tbsp of crumpet mixture inside each of the crumpet rings.
Cook your crumpets for 10-15 minutes in pan – the tops start should start to bubble and burst. Fun! Overall the crumpets will still be a little undercooked in places.
Remove the crumpet rings carefully. Flip the crumpets to cook the tops for two minutes and then set them aside. Repeat from step four with the rest of your mix.
Once all of your crumpets are ready, bake them in the oven for 5-8 minutes to ensure insides are cooked and chewy.
Lather crumpets with your favourite Superbee honey and paired toppings and enjoy!
